About

Before it was Bröd, this was a neighbourhood shoe shop on Mechelininkatu. Long before that, it was a bread and milk shop, where people stopped in every morning for something fresh. Galleria Bröd keeps the name and the idea: a small room on the street where something fresh comes out.
Today it’s a pop-up gallery, event space and studio in Töölö, Helsinki. About 50 square metres, big street windows, a back room and a door out to the courtyard.

Who runs it

I’m Johan Ekblom, a photographer and designer with a background in brand work, media and communications. I live in the building and walked past this space for about five years before it finally became available. Now I get to fill it with work, mine and other people’s.

What happens here

Studio Bröd is two rooms with two purposes.

The front rooms are a pop-up gallery and event space. It can be booked for exhibitions, from a single weekend to longer exhibitions, and for small events: launches, talks, screenings, workshops and evenings that need a room with character.

The back room is my studio, where I make my own work. You can follow what’s being made, built and shown at Studio & Galleria Bröd on [YouTube / Instagram].

Opening November 2026.
