Kalle Johansson: Eftertanke

6–15 November 2026
Opening: Thursday 6 November, 18:00

Galleria Bröd is pleased to present Eftertanke, an exhibition of new and recent paintings by Kalle Johansson. He returns from Florence for a homecoming of sorts, bringing new work to the inaugural exhibition at Bröd.

The Swedish word eftertanke describes the kind of thinking that arrives after the moment has passed. Johansson’s paintings are character-driven: figures caught in a passing thought, in moments that might otherwise slip by unnoticed.

Johansson works mainly in oil, combined with charcoal and drawing. His palette is restrained and earthy, occasionally broken by sudden bursts of pop. Carefully modelled faces and hands sit alongside passages left deliberately open, as if the painting has paused mid-thought. The result is figurative work that is tender and melancholy, with an undertone of curiosity and humour.

About the artist
Kalle Johansson began painting as a self-taught artist and went on to develop his practice through extended periods of study with master painters in Florence, Italy. Alongside painting, he works in sculpture and drawing. To keep the lights on, he also does accounting and spins pizzas, though he’s quick to point out that neither is where he belongs.
